South African cricketers celebrating a victory against Bangladesh in a T20 World Cup match.
South Africa's bowlers defended a record-low total of 114 runs to defeat Bangladesh by 4 runs in a nail-biting T20 World Cup encounter.

In yesterday’s thrilling match of the T20 World Cup, South Africa defeated Bangladesh by four runs. South Africa’s captain Aiden McCrum won the toss and decided to bat first. Bangladesh’s team could score only 109 runs in front of South Africa’s target of 114 runs. South Africa’s bowlers bowled brilliantly and defended the lowest total in the history of the T20 World Cup. This match was played on Monday night at Nassau County Stadium in New York.

The match between South Africa and Pakistan team ended in a draw. South Africa has defeated Bangladesh for the ninth consecutive time in T20 International matches. With this, South Africa has left the Indian team behind and equaled the Pakistani team. Pakistan has won nine consecutive Twenty20 International matches against Bangladesh. In contrast, the Indian team has won eight consecutive Twenty20 International matches. The New Zealand team has the longest winning streak in Twenty20 International cricket matches against Bangladesh.

Poor Batting by South Africa

This is South Africa’s lowest score in the T20 World Cup so far. Earlier, South Africa’s lowest T20 World Cup score was 116 for nine against India in the inaugural year of the competition in 2007. South Africa broke its own record after 17 years. The batsmen of the South African team could not show any magic. It seemed extremely impossible that South Africa would have even reached 100 if David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen had not shared a 79-run partnership.

Superb Performance by the Bowlers

For South Africa, Heinrich Klaasen scored 46 runs off 44 balls, which included two fours and three sixes. Apart from this, David Miller was out after scoring 29 runs. Thanks to these players, the African team was able to score more than 100 runs. In response to 114 runs, the Bangladeshi team could only score 109 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. In the last over, the Bangladeshi team needed 11 runs to win. But Keshav Maharaj bowled brilliantly and dashed Bangladesh’s hopes. In the last over, he took two wickets and gave only six runs. He was successful in taking a total of three wickets in the match. Apart from this, Enrique Norkhia and Kagiso Rabada took 2-2 wickets.

Bangladesh Bat did not work

Talking about the batting of the Bangladeshi team, Tauhid Hirdoy scored the highest 37 runs. Apart from this, Mahmudullah scored twenty runs. Captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto scored 14 runs. Apart from these three, no player could touch the double digit mark.

In the last phase of the match, Bangladesh had to score 6 runs on the last ball and 11 runs in the last over to win. Taskin Ahmed’s six on spinner Keshav Maharaj’s full toss could have given the Bangla Tigers a win but it did not happen. Keshav Maharaj took three wickets for 27 runs in four overs. Heinrich Klaasen won the Player of the Match award by scoring 46 runs in 44 balls.

South Africa has now reached the number one position in Group D after winning all three matches. With this, South Africa has also become the first team of the tournament to qualify for the Super-8 round. The other members of this group are Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
