The 59th match of the IPL season was played between Gujarat and Chennai on Friday (May 10) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Gujarat not only scored a huge score of 231 runs for 3 wickets but then restricted Chennai Super Kings to 196 runs for 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Gujarat won this match by 35 runs. With this defeat, the road ahead has become difficult for Chennai Super Kings.

After the win, Gujarat’s team remains in the playoff race

This match was like a do or die for Gujarat. This is the team’s fifth win in 12 matches and now it has 10 points. With this, the ranking of Gujarat’s team has improved and the team has now moved from 10th to 8th position. Shubman Gill’s team is still in the playoff race. To keep the playoff hopes alive, Gujarat will have to win both its remaining matches because even one defeat will put the team out of the knockout race. At the same time, this is the sixth defeat of defending champion Chennai in 12 matches.  The team still remains in fourth place with 12 points.

After captain Shubman Gill (104) and Sai Sudarshan (103), Mohit Sharma (3 wickets for 31 runs) helped Gujarat Titans beat defending champions Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs and keep their hopes of reaching the playoffs of IPL 2024 alive.

These included the wickets of AjinkyaRahane (1), RachinRavindra (1) and captain RiturajGaikwad (0). However, after this Daryl Mitchell (63) and then Moeen Ali (56) kept Chennai in the match by making a century partnership of 109 runs in 57 balls for the fourth wicket and saved the hopes of the fans of the Chennai team from getting dashed.

Gujarat Titans scored a mammoth score of 231 runs for 3 wickets on the basis of a double century partnership of 210 runs for the first wicket between captain Shubhaman Gill (104) and Sai Sudarshan (103). This is the biggest partnership for any wicket in IPL for Gujarat Titans till date. This is the biggest partnership for any wicket for any team in IPL 2024. This is the biggest partnership for the first wicket in the history of IPL.

Gill and Sudarshan made the biggest partnership for any wicket for Gujarat in IPL as soon as they shared 148 runs for the first wicket. Gill and Sudarshan’s partnership of 148 runs for the first wicket is the biggest partnership for any wicket against Chennai Super Kings in IPL.

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan – both completed their centuries in 50 balls each. This is Gill’s fourth century in IPL and all four have come while playing for Gujarat. This is Sudarshan’s first century. Sudarshan became the victim of Tushar Deshpande in 17.2 overs. Sai hit five fours and seven sixes in 51 balls. Sudarshan has now become the fastest Indian batsman to score 1000 runs in IPL history. He has achieved this figure in 25 innings. Gill was out in 17.6 overs after scoring 104 runs with the help of nine fours and six sixes in 55 balls and apart from Gill, David Miller scored an unbeaten 16 runs.This is only the third time in the IPL that two batsmen have scored a century in the same innings of a match. Before Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan, Sunrisers Hyderabad team did it against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2019 and Royal Challengers Bangalore did it against Gujarat Lions in 2016.

Chennai team could not break Gujarat’s target

Chasing the huge target of 232 runs given by Gujarat, Chennai Super Kings had a bad start. The team lost its top three wickets within 10 runs. These included the wickets of AjinkyaRahane (1), RachinRavindra (1) and captain RiturajGaikwad (0). Chennai Super Kings needed 70 runs in the last four overs to win. Shivam Dubey and RavindraJadeja kept Chennai in the game by making a partnership of 30 runs for the sixth wicket. But Mohit again emerged as the savior for Gujarat here. He gave the sixth blow to Chennai by getting Shivam caught out. Dubey scored 21 runs on the strength of two fours and a six in 13 balls. After Dubey was out, MS Dhoni entered the field.

Chennai had to score 64 runs to win in the last three overs and the pair of Dhoni and Jadeja were present at the crease. Then in the 18th over, Rashid Khan bowled out Jadeja and then Mitchell Santler, dashing Chennai’s hopes of victory. However, Dhoni entertained the fans by hitting two consecutive sixes in the last over. But he could not make Chennai win. Dhoni scored an unbeaten 26 runs on 11 balls with the help of one four and three sixes.

For Gujarat Titans, apart from Mohit Sharma’s three wickets, Rashid Khan took two and Umesh Yadav and Sandeep Warrior took one wicket each.
